Today on the VIBE Blog, we’re introducing you to an amazing member of our team, Jeff Herro! Anyone who’s met Jeff knows he has a fiery and contagious passion for being a fitness coach and helping people get closer to their goals. Read on to learn about Jeff’s personal journey with fitness, what motivates him to lead a healthy lifestyle, and how his coaching clients inspire him in and out of the gym.
Creating a Healthy Lifestyle
It might surprise you to hear that Jeff hasn’t always been “into” fitness. However, it was 2016 when he started down the path to a healthier lifestyle. At the time, Jeff was overweight and had metabolic issues and various high-risk health factors. He wasn’t happy in his life and who he was. Like many people, Jeff knew what he needed to do to be healthier. And when he realized just how unhappy he was with himself, he decided to do something about it.
Jeff’s Commitment to Fitness
Now, fitness is a priority that gets Jeff up every day and helps him stay positive in life. Working out and coaching at VIBE, and surrounding himself with positive people who are motivating and encouraging is important to him.
Jeff starts his days at 4 a.m. with a workout. He says working out is the best thing he can do for the people he works with as a fitness coach, his family, and anyone else he’s connected with in life. It allows him to give his best in everything he does.
Jeff focuses on metabolic training, doing combinations of weights or strength training and cardio. He enjoys group fitness classes because he feeds off everyone’s energy and gets really into it. Jeff will admit, if you’re ever in a class with him, he‘s probably the loudest guy in the room!
At this point in Jeff’s life, fitness is something he has to do. While he changes up his routine and enjoys challenging himself, Jeff’s learned to listen to his body, too. Carly, Samantha, and the team at VIBE have helped him do this, and he’s grateful to be in such a supportive environment.
Fitness has made Jeff a better husband, a better father, and allowed him to develop a true passion for helping other people. Coaching has helped him become more empathetic and lets him put himself in other people’s shoes, walking with them because of fitness.
Planning His Nutrition
Jeff doesn’t diet, but he does have a plan for his nutrition. As he says, diets have an end. Instead, planning is something you can make part of your life indefinitely. When it comes to how Jeff nourishes his body, he macros his protein, carbohydrates, and fats.
He likes a mix of egg whites, chicken, lean meats, fruits, and vegetables; eating as clean as he can so he can also plan for fun foods like pizza and potato chips from time to time. Having a plan lets him still enjoy tasty foods and special occasions while still giving his body what it needs.
What Jeff Enjoys About Being a Fitness Coach at VIBE
According to Jeff, there’s fitness for everyone and at every level of ability. Whether you’re walking, running a marathon, or lifting weights, what matters is that you’re doing it. It’s important to have consistent habits of perseverance and surround yourself with positive people who support you and what you’re doing.
Jeff enjoys helping people stretch their limits and get closer to reaching their goals. For him, the most important thing a fitness coach or a leader can do is get to know the people they work with. As a coach, he can have anyone do any sort of exercise in the gym or talk about nutrition. But if he doesn’t know who you are and what affects you outside of the gym, he knows he can’t be as effective.
He loves working out with anyone who wants a challenge and being part of the little victories that create progress for his clients. As Jeff sees it, when you break down your workouts by time, you don’t have to be great for 45 minutes: You only have to be great for one moment at a time.
Whatever your “great” is, it’s what inspires Jeff.
He works out with everyone from cancer survivors to people who are going through serious crises. The amazing thing about fitness is that it makes us all stronger, no matter where we are on our paths.
