08 Jun 6 Fun Outdoor Activities to Try This Summer
Summer’s almost here! It’s time to pack up your winter gear and soak up as much Vitamin D as possible. The best thing about summer is getting to spend more time outside. Fresh air, exercise, and sunshine are great for your physical and mental wellbeing. Here is our list of fun outdoor activities to get you moving outdoors this summer.
1. Go For a Hike
Hiking is the perfect activity for you if you have an active lifestyle or if you like more leisurely activities. You can choose a trail with difficulty that matches where you are on your fitness journey. Enjoy quality time with your family as you stroll through the woods and nature parks. Or, take a much-needed screen break to clear your mind. Hiking might also help you discover the variety of wildlife in your area and feel more at one with nature.
Breathe deep and enjoy the peace and quiet!
2. Try Out Paddleboarding
If you’ve ever felt nervous about trying paddleboarding, now is the time to give it a shot! This fun outdoor activity will get you out and on the water, work your core muscles, and improve your balance. It’s a great activity for any fitness level and you’ll have so much fun you won’t even realize you’re exercising. Plus, there are plenty of places where you can rent a paddleboard if you’re not ready to commit to one yet.
3. Join in Kids’ Fun Outdoor Activities
Have kids in your life? Join them in their outdoor fun with games like tag, kickball, or red light-green light. Help them be both active and creative by drawing out a hopscotch board or four square. Don’t forget to break out the jump rope to show off your Double Dutch skills!
4. Lace Up Your Skates
Do you remember going to the roller rink when you were a kid? Roller skating or blading is a lot of fun and great cardio! Skating is a great way to improve balance and stamina, too. So, lace up your skates, plug in your favorite roller-disco playlist, and enjoy this great outdoor exercise!
5. Swim in the Sun
Are you ready to hit the beach or are you more of a pool person? Either way, swimming is great for almost any age and fitness level! Swimming and any other water exercise are a lot easier on your body than high-impact exercises on dry land. It’s easier on your joints and a nice way to relax. Cool off in the water, but don’t forget the sunscreen!
6. Practice Yoga Outdoors
Yoga is beneficial for your mind and body wherever you practice, but there’s something rejuvenating about doing it in an outdoor space. Before you begin, make sure you find a familiar and relatively quiet place to practice. Breathe in the fresh air and focus on the sounds of nature around you. Practicing yoga outside is a fantastic way to find balance and peace of mind.
Get Out There!
Besides getting outside and being active, we also want to remind you to drink plenty of water and use sunscreen! Vitamin D from the sun is great, but dehydration and sunburn, not so much! Get outside, get moving, and clear your mind.
